When you look at a tree, what do you see? Through the lens of photographer Don Ament, the lives of trees "…give them a long, slow, 24/7 drink of the world they inhabit. In their worldly experience, trees have seen it all. As an ‘observer’ myself, I’m envious of their master skill set of simply ‘noticing’.”
Wood carver Kurt Gohde, a professor of art at Transylvania University, sees the source of a meditative experience — “a quiet, slow, reflective process that is full of riddles, due to every piece of wood being different, posing different problems of grain pattern and direction.”
On April 11, Gohde’s hand-carved wooden spoons and Ament’s photographic images of their leafy, rooted relatives go on display at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center in Lexington with an opening reception from 5:30-7:30 pm.
